To the north of the Gendermenmarkt you will find the French Church. It was built between the years 1701 and 1705 by the Huguenots, the name given to French Calvinists of the period. It was modelled on the Charenton-Saint-Maurice Cathedral in France, which had already been destroyed by then. It was not particularly spectacular until 1785 when the tower and its impressive dome were added, a piece of work designed by Carl von Gontard.

The top of the tower offers a spectacular view of Berlin. So if you want to see a lovely panorama of the city, make sure you get up to this fantastic viewing platform. And if you fancy learning a little about the history of French Protestantism, be sure to visit the Huguenot Museum. Since 1929 it has been located inside the building and documents the history of this religious group. Remember also to consult its programme because concerts are often held here.
