Located in Place de la Bourse, the Brussels Stock Exchange building is an impressive Neoclassical style construction that was designed by the architect Léon Suys in the late nineteenth century, and was intended to centralise the city’s commercial business.

You will notice that it is easily one of the most beautiful buildings in Brussels, with an ostentatiously decorated facade upon which bas-reliefs and sculpture groups stand out. Below the colonnade you will see two beautiful winged figures that represent Good and Evil and are the work of Jacques de Haen. You will also observe some groups of statues that symbolise Asia and Africa, which it is believed were made by Auguste Rodin.

Also by Rodin are the four caryatids you will find on one of the interior walls of the building. In fact, although not all the building can be visited, you can have a look at some of the zones inside. You may only do so, however, from behind a large glass wall that separates onlookers from the frantic workers of the site.
