The peaceful Leopold Park is a small haven of peace and tranquillity in the European Parliament zone. Although there was a zoo here as long ago as 1847, at the end of the nineteenth century, the industrialist Ernest Solvay decided to create a science park. In order to do so, the Leopold Park was donated to him. That was how this industrialist, who was one of the inventors of the caustic soda production process, built five university centres on this site, noteworthy among which is the Institute of Sociology, home to the splendid Solvay Library.

Furthermore, over time these buildings have brought together scientists the stature of Marie Curie and Albert Einstein.

Currently, in the park compound these buildings are still preserved and you may also enjoy a pleasant walk along the paths around its lake. If you are lucky, you may see a famous heron that seems to have made its home on this site. At the top of the park, moreover, you will find the interesting Museum of Natural Sciences.
