Fifth Avenue

Fifth Avenue (69)

Welcome to the most vibrant street of the city: Fifth Avenue, a kilometre-long road between Washington Square Park and Central Park. In fact, it is the axis that divides the city into two sectors, the East Side and West Side, it is here that the numbering of the blocks of buildings in the streets begin.

If you take a walk through this majestic avenue, you will find some of the most recognisable buildings in New York as the Flatiron Building, the Empire State Building, the New York Public Library, the Rockefeller Center, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Guggenheim, St Patrick's Cathedral and the Cooper-Hewitt building.

Thus it will be a tour of unmissable photos of the city such as at the intersection with 50th, where you will find the neo-Gothic St Patrick's Catholic Church, its white spires silhouetted against the dark glass of the Olympic Tower; this is one of pictures that must go into your album.

Besides taking pictures, Fifth Avenue is a symbol of shopping and more shopping. When you reach the intersection of Fifth Avenue and 57th Street, stop. You are now in the most distinguished shopping area of New York, and one of the most famous in the world. Boutiques, luxury goods, art galleries, boutiques... A glamorous boulevard unfolds before you.

The favourites for children are the Disney Store and the legendary toy store FAO Schwartz; a fascinating place for kids and adults alike. This toy store has a giant piano that can be played with your feet and that rose to fame thanks to the legendary film "Big", starring Tom Hanks.

Other essentials on Fifth Avenue are the major luxury department stores Saks and the elegant Bergdorf Goodman, the branch of Cartier at the 52nd in an early 20th century mansion and, of course, the famous jewellery store Tiffany at the intersection with 57th, where Audrey Hepburn starred in the memorable "Breakfast at Tiffany's".
