Place Saint-Sulpice

Place Saint-Sulpice (50A)

Facing the church is the Place Saint-Sulpice, which was built in the second half of the 18th century. It is a square that has a bit of everything.

Its most characteristic elements are the fountain of the Quatre Points Cardinaux, work of Joachim Visconte in 1844 and on which pointing to the four cardinal points appear four bishops Bossuet, Fénelon, Fléchier and Massillon, who paradoxically never became cardinals.

Also of note are the pink-flowered chestnut trees.

Here you will find the Café de la Mairie, a meeting place for writers and students and which has appeared in many French films.

In the square there are other cafés, which on Sunday mornings overflow with Parisians with their newspaper and coffee. So there you have it, if you want to be a real Parisian, you will just need to order a croissant as well.
