Ciutadella – Zoo

Ciutadella – Zoo (43A)

Although it dates from 1892, the Barcelona Zoo is one of the most advanced in the world. And one of the best in Europe.

The perfect place for a family day out.

In addition to being home to wild and exotic creatures from around the world, the zoo is also an important centre for research and conservation and collaborates with international maintenance programmes for species in danger of extinction.

It also carries out an important didactic function, educating its visitors by means of a wide range of activities aimed particularly at children. A great way for the little ones to learn to respect and care for the environment.

While it has housed more than four hundred species of animals over the course of its history, without doubt the star of the show was Copito de Nieve (Snowflake). This albino gorilla was a unique specimen who arrived in Barcelona in 1966 after being captured in Equatorial Guinea. His lack of pigmentation, very rare in this species, soon made him the zoo's main attraction.

The zoo houses a wide range of species, from majestic elephants to tiny, curious insects. It also features a number of specialised enclosures, such as the aviary and the terrarium.

The new Barcelona zoo facilities faithfully reproduce the natural habitat of each species, with native flora and space enough that the animals can move about freely.

The zoo also features restaurants, playgrounds, a picnic area and basically anything you may need for a fun day out.

So enjoy a day of leisure and learning while marvelling at the wildlife and nature of your planet.
