Behind the Palazzo Rucellai visitors will find the Church of San Pancrazio, one of the oldest in the city, having been founded in the 9th century. This church was owned by the wealthy merchant Giovanni Rucellai, whose tomb is located in the Chapel of the Holy Sepulchre, on one side of the temple. In the chapel visitors will also find a block of stone from Christ's tomb, on which the angel that announced Jesus' resurrection to Mary originally perched.
But also in the Church of San Pancrazio visitors will find the Marino Marini Museum, which houses a large exhibition of sculptures, paintings and engravings belonging to this noted Italian sculptor. Marini is considered the most important abstract artist in Italy and the most important sculptor to come out of the country in the 20th century.
The museum houses more than 180 works of the artist, in which visitors will notice his recurring themes, such as horses and riders, jugglers and female figures.
